Chris Beard, head coach of the University of Texas men's basketball team, was arrested on a felony domestic violence charge on Monday morning.

Beard, 49, is being booked at the Travis County jail, according to Kristen Dark, senior public information officer.

At 4:18 in the morning, local law enforcement in Austin, Texas, placed Chris Beard under arrest, and he was subsequently booked.

Accused with "assault of a family/household member, restrict breath circulation," or strangling, a third-degree felony.

Austin police received a "disturbance hotshot" report and were called to the 1900 block of Vista Lane soon after midnight Monday.

According to the Austin PD website, "incidents which are in progress represent an urgent threat to life and/or public safety" constitute a "hotshot" call.

In an interview with the Austin American-Statesman, Beard's lawyer Perry Minton insisted that his client "is 100% innocent of these charges."

Minton said, "He shouldn't have been arrested.", "The complainant wants all charges dropped immediately. Unthinkable."
