Kyrsten Sinema, a senator from Arizona, is switching from being a Democrat to being an independent.

POLITICO had a 45-minute interview with the freshman senator, during which she stated that she will not be joining the Republican caucus.

She indicated that during her remaining four years in the Senate, she plans to continue voting the same way that she has.

Senator Kyrsten Sinema stated, "Neither my morals nor my actions will undergo any modifications."

Sinema wouldn't say if she would run for re-election in 2024, and on Thursday she told Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer about her decision.

According to Senator Sinema, "I don't anticipate that anything will change concerning the structure of the Senate."

I plan to go to work and do the same things I've always done. She said, "I just plan to show up to work on my own."

The 46-year-old said that switching parties was the next logical step in a political career built on working closely with both Democrats and Republicans.
