Former Pope Benedict who stepped down nine years ago, is "very sick" after his health got worse on Wednesday.

"Please pray for Pope Emeritus Benedict, who supports the Church in silence. "He's really unwell," Francis stated Wednesday at the Vatican.

A Vatican spokesman later revealed that "Benedict's health has gotten worse in the last few hours because of his age."
